Description
The evocative New York City scene on our tee is adapted from an original photograph by Hertha Bauer (20th century) titled 5th Avenue at 46th Street at Night (ca. 1980–83). Her composition frames the soaring cityscape along Fifth Avenue, anchored by the brightly lit windows and setback silhouette of the Empire State Building to the south at 34th Street.Bauer, who tended to aim her lens at the urban landscape, was noted for her unique series of distinctive cast-iron manhole covers, which she photographed around the world and exhibited in New York in the 1980s. Produced in cooperation with the New York Historical Society.
